Laterite Slip Carved Woodfired Vase
This vase was thrown and then carved as a closed form. This was my first exploration with laterite slip which is a high iron and aluminum clay like material. Depending on the clay body, the slip can have a red or black effect during firing. This particular clay body (Standard 378) was high in manganese which seemed to work particularly well with the laterite slip in the atmospheric firing and reduction cooling.
